On Sunday August 28th it’s going down! “Party for a Sister: House Jam for Large Marj” at Gotta Dance (3581 Dundas St. West, Toronto) is an event held to help out Marjory Smarth, who many consider a pioneer of House dance. Unfortunately, she has been battling cancer for the past 2 years. Of course, American medical bills are not exactly in the smallest of amounts, so we are gathering together to help house legend Marj (just as we did with Kool Herc not too long ago). It’s an all ages event and the suggested donation is 10$. There will be cupcakes, raffles, workshops, and more!

Let us all come together and raise money for this amazing woman who has given us so much through her talent and spirit. PARTY FOR A SISTER!

Marjory Smarth is an icon in the dance community. For the last 25 years, she has reached countless people worldwide through her craft. Her focus has been to help people from all walks of life to find their own freedom of expression. In addition to teaching house dance internationally, Marjory has performed in numerous dance tours throughout the globe, and has appeared in several films and four documentaries about the dance industry and culture.

Recently, Marjory was diagnosed with breast cancer. This disease, which affects about 1 in 8 women in the US, will pose an on-going battle for Marjory. To this end, we invite you to join us in showing her continued support.

We cordially request your presence at our celebration of Marjory’s life, and legacy while showing her our love and support in this most difficult time. Special guest performances and Funkbox after party entrance included with your $15 donation.
